My first domainer meeting with Stu Maloff in Greece

I wasn’t able to attend NamesCon this week but I was able to meet a domainer on Tuesday here in Athens, Greece. I met with Stu Maloff from Boca Raton, Florida.

We went for a coffee with Stu at Halandri, Athens and talked for a couple of hours about Greece, movies, NFL football, basketball and of course mostly domain names.

Stu is a great guy. He is teaching at a local American school, getting to know Athens and traveling to some great destinations like Vienna or Israel whenever he has a few days off teaching. He ambitiously hopes to see most Europe and some of Asia before he goes back in a couple of years.

He is actually the first domainer I have ever met in person. I have talked in forums, blogs and email with a lot of domainers but I haven’t attended any conferences in the US. I guess that there are not a lot of domainers in Greece. Theo Develegas is Greek but his lives in Florida. I was surprised that Stu and Theo have never met.

We talked a lot about domain name sales, renewals and conferences. Stu and Mike Ward used to run the South Florida Domainers meetings since 2009 and until he accepted the job in Greece last February. He said that “At that point, I was too busy preparing for the move to run them and Mike became busier with personal issues too. I hope the group can continue to meet like they used to and if anyone would like to use the domain for that purpose while I am in Greece, just to contact me.”

Stu also told how he bought Enticing.com just a few months back at Sedo. It was steal. Great purchase Stu! He even got some Greek domains such as Halandri.com where we met for that coffee and GreekSingles.gr.

Stu is a big NFL fan. He actually said that although the Super Bowl game is at 1:30 in the morning Athens time, he thinks it is Un-American not to watch the Super Bowl. Maybe I’ll watch my first Super Bowl game with Stu in February.

We plan to meet again and this time maybe there will be more than 2 domainers present… Stu suggested we can get a mini domain group going here in Athens. Anyone interested just contact us.

  1. Thank you for sharing, Kosta. Florida is much bigger than Greece, it’s not like I know everyone else in the state, so I never had the pleasure of meeting Stu.

Great seeing how a professional seizes the opportunity to not only live, but teach in another country. Here’s another interesting read: http://www.leavingcairo.com/smart-life-coaching-a-turk-in-athens/
