Namecheap files suit against ICANN

Richard Kirkendall, Namecheap CEO, announced today that they filed a suit against ICANN.

“After a previous ruling via a mediation process they have taken little action towards the recommendations of that ruling and so our hand has been forced to take this action. We feel that ICANN is in direct violation of their mandate and bylaws to do what is in the best interest of the internet community and do so with complete transparency. You can read the petition here (189 pages).”

You can read more about the previous ruling here: Namecheap vs ICANN: removal of price caps for .ORG and .INFO found improper in landmark IRP decision.

I most certainly predicted that ICANN will ignore the IRP decision over a year ago. (January 9, 2023)

ICANN will most certainly ignore the Namecheap IRP decision

“ICANN will most certainly ignore the Namecheap IRP decision regarding the removal of price caps for .ORG and .INFO.

This is very clear from their comments on the Independent Review Process (IRP) decision.

ICANN has no respect for anyone, including the global public interest and of course the IRP arbitrators. They will spin the decision any way they like and will not remedy any of the violations.”
