Uniregistry launched .Christmas and .BlackFriday yesterday Thusday, July 8th 2014.
The first day, or rather first hours, registration numbers were not very impressive. .Christmas had 419 domain registrations and .BlackFriday 401 registrations.
These numbers include the 123 Sunrise registrations for .Christmas and the 144 Sunrise Registrations for .BlackFriday.
.Christmas got 296 registrations after General Availability yesterday and .BlackFriday got 255.
I am always comparing the same first hours for all New gTLDs. The hours between General Availability and the first zone files update.
I believe that .Christmas is much better than .BlackFriday because it can have a wider range of uses around the world and Christmas preparations and celebrations last as long as 2 months in many countries including the after Christmas sales. .BlackFriday simply refers to a single day of sales and is only limited to the US. And 2 word New gTLDs are a big NO for me. I know that there is no other way to describe a few terms but still I believe that the biggest power of New gTLDs lies on strong 2 word terms with one word on the left and the other on the right.
One of Uniregistry’s problems, besides the reserved domains, is that Go Daddy is still not offering their New gTLDs. People just have no idea these New gTLDs are coming out. And it seems that these 2 New gTLDs are rather expensive compared to other New gTLDs from Uniregistry with .blackfriday selling at $39.99 at Dynadot and .Christmas selling at $33.99.
