How I bought a domain twice in 2003 and 2012

Let me tell you a story from the past… It was back in 2003 and Namewinner was running at full speed catching dropping domain names. For those that don’t know what Namewinner was… Namewinner was a backorder service that was very successful in the early 2000s and closed down in 2006.

In August 2003 I got the domain GlassAquarium.com after it dropped. I think I paid about $100 for is in a Namewinner auction. A few months later I sold it for about $250 and completely forgot about it until last month. In February 2012 I saw the same domain in a Namejet auction list. I put a backorder for it and won the auction by paying $110.

I don’t think this was an expired domain auction but rather the owner put it up for auction at Namejet without a reserve. So I won 2 auctions for the same domain name with a 9 year gap and paid the almost the same. And I bought the domain back from the person I originally sold it to.
