Google’s New Company Is Using The Domain ABC.XYZ That Was Purchased Just 10 Days Ago

abc-xyz-googleGoogle announced through a blog post that it is creating a new holding company, called Alphabet that is using the domain name abc.xyz.

Larry Page will be running Alphabet as CEO with help from his capable partner, Sergey, as President.

What is Alphabet? Alphabet is mostly a collection of companies. The largest of which, of course, is Google.

This newer Google is a bit slimmed down, with the companies that are pretty far afield of its main internet products contained in Alphabet instead.

The website at abc.xyz page mainly contains the blog post announcing the reorganization, but it also contains a hidden link that goes to hooli.xyz. Hooli is the made-up tech giant from “Silicon Valley”, the HBO TV series. Hidden at the period that comes after “drone delivery effort,” you’ll find a link to hooli.xyz.

The domain name abc.xyz was sold by the XYZ registry to Google for an undisclosed amount of money. The domain was sold sometime after the 30th of July, 2015.

The domain name was part of the 100 domains that were reserved (according to ICANN rules) by the XYZ registry for its own promotion and usage. I guess the offer from Google was an offer they couldn’t refuse. And of course the purchase also comes with a lot of press coverage for the .XYZ domain names.

  1. Alphabet starts with ABC and ends with XYZ, so the name ABC.XYZ is nice an catchy for such announcement, however .XYZ remains meaningless and weak extension for general commerce. But surely it has generated a lot of PR for XYZ Registry, so I’m sure a lot of newbie domainers has started to register .XYZ names with hope of making a great investment. It’s a business and it’s about money, so XYZ Registry is happy about it. But those domainers who are making investments into .XYZ names are on wrong side of very profitable business. The profit is only on the side of Registry and the registrars. It is extremely unlikely to make a great profit on sales of .XYZ domain names anytime soon. Not even in 5 years.

    • Abc.xyz is a great hack. It could be the only good one in .xyz. Google must have paid a lot. But even if it didn’t the PR would be enough.

Newbies should be very careful about buying a lot of .xyz domains. Sure, new registrations are cheap but most “good” domains are long gone. And buying .xyz at auctions now would be a risk, as .xyz prices will have a peak now. If you have good ones now it is a good time to sell.

  2. That Google picked a new TLD Domain could push all new GTLD

  3. hmmm. This is my only one .xyz “Aphabetext.xyz”
I was wondering if I wasted my investment?
    Your thought plz.
