Moniker: let the problems begin! (auto-renew, credit cards, control panel)

I tried to warn everybody on Thursday that the new Moniker will be a huge problem but you can never prepare enough for a disaster.

Today my problems began. Even though I had renew any domains that were set to expire in June and transferred away a few domains.

I got an email notice today with subject “Invoice” and I knew it was trouble as soon as it hit my inbox. This is for the renewal of the domain name *************.info that expired almost a month back: 2014-05-06.

I don’t want this domain and that is why I didn’t renew it and had not set it at auto-renew.
The email says that I will be charged on my credit card. Then I saw that there is no option to delete a credit card from the system. And I can only see 1 credit card (I had 3) saved in the previous control panel. (And to tell you the truth I don’t recognize the last 4 digits of that credit card on file.)

Also I can’t see the domain anywhere in my account. Also you have no option to disable auto-renew on my other domains. These 2 are the only options I see:
-renew at expiration date
-delete at expiration date

The “delete at expiration date” means that the domain enters the redemption period immediately at expiration. I don’t want to delete a domain at expiration date. There is also an option that registrars call auto-expire. I want it to enter redemption in 30+ days after expiration. How can we do that in New Moniker?

I have filed my first support ticket already.

I now see that my account does not list 2 domains that expired on the 17th and 27th of May but DO list domains that expired in March and April and a domain that entered redemption yesterday.

Maybe Moniker (or DD24) needs to explain how it treats auto-renew and that other option. And why 2 domains from April that expired on the same date are both in my account but 1 is in redemption and the other is not…

And I have not checked the new control panel yet… More problems coming soon…

  1. Luckily i don’t have anything with them. But people should start to vote with their feet, that is the only way to make a business understand their service is not good. The same goes for other well known names who go from bad to worse each year. Those little discounts and codes are not worth the trouble of some one who cares about his portfolio.

  2. I emailed support about cc issues as well, got a stupid reply back, I have 300 domains left there, down from 800, can’t wait to get out of there, has no cart system, no PayPal access, no cc edit, or add, it is a nightmare.

  3. total disappointment.renew does not work.looks like 90’s.does not have 2 factor auth??? OMG !i have my best premium names here ! My max lock also has disappeared.

  4. I can’t even get customer support! I will beginning moving 10,000 domains away until a get a support rep. This was a BIG mistake moniker!

  5. Same here (just got charged for a list of domains that I had set to drop)!

  6. I loved the old Moniker System. What they have done now is one of the worst domain registration/ management systems I’ve ever seen. After being with Moniker for 9 years, I’m out ASAP. Absolutely useless!

  7. 12 years for me, sad! After 45 minutes on hold, a get a voice mail to leave a message! I can;t even reach someone to address all the issues. Does anyone have a contact for someone in charge?

  8. i’ve spent 2 hours trying to use the new interface, I could write a lot about what it’s like, but actually let me summarise it in 1 sentence: it’s the domain discount 24 interface + bugs. One of the worst interfaces out there. Nasty. Bye Moniker.

  9. How could they spend 3 days testing this, and put this live, did they outsource this to programmers who created it in their workflow processes, this is by far the worst platform I have used, wasted an hour of my morning, on this nonsense.

  10. also.. the only reason i have stayed with Moniker for over 10 years is because they have proudly said, “they have never lost a domain name to theft”. For me, regardless of price or functionality etc, that is a reason to stay with a registrar.

.. but, the thing is, their whole interface has changed, so whatever bullet-proof anti-theft trickery they had going on before, likely isn’t there anymore.

So for me, there is no reason to stay with them. Hexonet here i come.

  11. STOP - TRICKY BEHAVIOUR IS DANGEROUS!

You CAN NOT EVEN SEND A TICKET?!? Any one with the same issue?!? You click submit but nothing happens!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I want all the time these morons force me to lose repaid! Not only Moniker all the tricky morons in this industry. Stop morons! You have already crossed the line. Crossing the line IS DANGEROUS!

  12. I logged in to one of my accounts today and strangely there is 1 domains missing. Yesterday showed 334 (in new system), today shows 333. luckily i have a screenshot of the original system showing the correct total domains as well as taking your advice and saving all the domains in account in a spreadsheet. Not were expired or close to expiring or in grace period. Now I need to go thorough my list and see what is missing. more wasted time. I opened a support ticket will post any followup.

  13. Cant find expired names I want to renew.
    This is a nightmare

  14. My credit card got charged for a dot net I had let expire in March: DualScreenTablet.net.
Fiddling with the dashboard to renew immediately DualScreenApps.com, which expires in 3 days, it used up my balance as I clicked, “Verify,” three times. I tried to paste the email I received about the Renew Immediately option.

The poor billing department will be inundated with credit requests!

Is Key Systems here to stay? This CANNOT be a giant domain-grab.

  15. STOP! SINCE NOW I WANT REFUNDS FOR THE TIME I AM FORCED TO LOSE. PERIOD.

    Publish the post please Konstantinos.

It is time to stop all the tricky behaviours. All tricky people in this industry can not steal the
    time of life of others as they want. T H E Y C A N N O T! PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They have to START PAYING for all their “mistakes”, often planned mistakes…

All tricky people in this industry can not steal my time of life as they want. T H E Y C A N N O T! PERIOD!

  16. I am missing domains in my account as well, no way of finding them, like magic, gone

  17. I talked to Moniker they give 35 days grace, but they might have expired over the weekend, it is a bit tricky to find the expired domains section.

  18. What a mess this is….

  19. What a scam. Since 2007 I never used auto-renewal with Moniker. Today I find a receipt of payment for domain renewals which I wanted to let drop. As Konstantinos says there is no way to delete the CC from the system. Thanks for the blog post! Again: Unbelievable.

  20. This is the 2nd day that my credit card is being charged for names that I transferred out (or disabled auto renew). Anyone figured out how to delete a credit card from their system yet?

  21. Moniker Customer

    I have registered OccupyMoniker.com / org and MonikerWatch.com /org

I hope they get their act together and this doesn’t turn out to be another RegisterFly fiasco in case any of you remember that one. Tens of thousands of name were lost, deleted or vanished. I lost over 300 domains in that mess. Supposedly ICANN has implemented procedures for warehousing whois data so this wouldn’t happen again.

Just to be on the safe side if anyone out there would like to get involved in getting the word out, with enough interest and assistance (as I am not a blogger) i would consider creating a site and spreading the word. You may email to get on list to: jaymiany99@gmail.com

  22. Does anyone know how to renew an expired domain? I click on the new expired domains button on the left but there’s no add to cart button. hmmm.

I do not like having only two options: Delete at expiration or Renew at expiration.

Many times I need to research a domain to evaluate if it’s worth keeping or not. How about an option. Do nothing and let me decide.

  23. I left moniker the day Monte Cahn Left, enough said!

  24. I can’t login in to my account. I tried resetting the password but is says my email or my customer number is invalid. I am sure both are correct. I sent a support ticket but no response. Can anyone help me?

  25. I realize this post is a bit late. I wanted to delete my credit card details as well and did not find an option for it. However, if you enter ‘Enter new payment option’ and choose Bank Transfer, the credit card option seems to be deleted. No need to enter Bank details.
