Donuts announced today that it sold the domain name my.life for $175,000. The domain was purchased on March 31, 2020.
Donuts is the registry of more than 200 domain name extensions and the domain name my.life was one of its platinum domain names that are not directly available to registrars. You have to contact the registry directly to negotiate and purchase them.
The domain name buyer is not yet know as the domain is behind whois privacy (and GDPR) and the domain does not yet resolve to an active website.
But the domain name my.life was registered at markmonitor.com that is a corporate registrar. There are a lot of possible buyers at this time. Buyer is 99,99% not the owner of the domain mylife.com as the domain is registered with Network Solutions and not Mark Monitor.
The domain has a regular renewal price for .life of about $25-$30 depending on the registrar. The renewal price was probably negotiated during the purchase.
.App, a Google domain name extension, has 196,403 domain names registered according to Namestat.org.
According to Sold.Domains this is the 12th highest New gTLD sale of all time ranking tied with tube.webcam at $175k.
This is the second highest New gTLD sale of 2020 below shop.app that sold for $200,000.
There are now 37 sold .life domain names in the Sold.Domains database.
Wow, I wonder how someone can recover the investment only by running a website. The website needs to be very popular… my.life will be something similar with Facebook? Maybe?
Probably not like Facebook.
Congrats to the seller and buyer. This is why I was so surprised at the money some new TLD operators were throwing at domain names in new TLD auctions
