Here are the domain name registration results of last week’s 2 Geo New gTLD launches:
.Cologne and .Koeln entered general availability on Friday the 5th of September after a week of an Early Access Program (EAP) type landrush.
.Cologne got 2,679 domain registrations and .Koeln had 11,453 domain names after the 1st day of general availability. .Hamburg got 13,793 domains a couple of weeks back. The German version of the city name won by far the English version. I guess this was expected as residents will mostly search for a geo domain name in their own language.
Today .Koeln has 12,282 domains and .Cologne has 2,896 domains.
Almost all domain names were registered in German registrars.
There were also 7 more New gTLD launches earlier last week that performed pretty bad:
Uniregistry launched 3 strings on the 3rd of September with these 1st day registrations: .hiphop 424, .audio 710 and .juegos (games in Spanish) 482.
Donuts had 4 Donuts New gTLDS: the best one, .gratis had 1118 domain registrations, .Credit had 801 domains and .claims had just 397 domain names. .CreditCard had only 284 registrations.
These numbers include the Sunrise (trademark) domain registrations which are not that high anyway and EAP registrations.
(I am always comparing the same first hours from their 1st day for all New gTLDs. The hours between General Availability and the first zone files update.)
