New gTLD 1st Day Registrations: Bad Week With .Gratis 1118, .CreditCard 284, .Audio 710, .HipHop 424

newgtldHere are the domain name registration results of this week’s 7 New gTLD launches:

Uniregistry launched 3 strings yesterday the 3rd of September: .hiphop, .audio and .juegos (games in Spanish). As expected most good domains were reserved by the registry. What I thought was the best extension, .audio, leads the 3 strings after the 1st day with 710 domain registrations. .Juegos got 482 and .hiphop got 424 domains.

Yesterday also, Wednesday the 3rd of September, 4 Donuts New gTLDs went out of the EAP pricing and into the real (reg fee) general availability: .Gratis (free in Spanish), .Claims, .Credit and .CreditCard.

The first day, or rather first hours, registration numbers were pretty bad 4 Donuts New gTLDS. The best one, .gratis had 1118 domain registrations and is the only one that made it over a thousand registrations. .Credit had 801 domains and .claims had just 397 domain names. .CreditCard had only 284 registrations. It had the most expensive premium domains with domains costing a few thousands to register and renew every year.

These numbers include the Sunrise (trademark) domain registrations which are not that high anyway and EAP registrations.

.Cologne and .Koeln will enter general availability tomorrow Friday the 5th of September.

(I am always comparing the same first hours from their 1st day for all New gTLDs. The hours between General Availability and the first zone files update.)

  1. Supply exceeding demand, premiums overtaking reg fees, users not buying in…

  2. “Gratis” is also “Free” in german
