Yesterday .Berlin, the first geographic/city New gTLD string went into general availability and it got 31,956 registrations in it’s first day.
.Menu started on Monday and it got 1649 registrations in it’s first day.
According to ntldstats.com there are now 294,066 New gTLD domain name registrations in the zone files. But zone files don’t include domain names without nameservers. So if we add about 2% (that is the number of domains I estimate to be without nameservers) to that then we reach at about 300,000 New gTLD domain name registrations in under 2 months since the new gtld program started.
.Guru still leads the way with 45,269 registrations but with the rate that .berlin is going it will not be for long. There are now 7 New gTLDs with 10,000 registrations or more.
Tomorrow 6 more New gTLDs from Donuts go into proper general availability: .academy, .center, .company, .computer, .management and .systems.

Have you ever been in Berlin? It is 3+M city. No way 30+k domain would be registered in 1st day. Only dumb-head would believe in that. There is something wrong in such report, or the counter is not what it should be and it includes domain name that are blocked/reserved/not-allowed, etc.

There is nothing wrong with the report. There are registered domain names that are in the zone files.
These don’t include blocked, reserved, collision, etc. domain names.

nothing wrong with it .. i saw bevor that united.domains got about 17 pre-registrations for berlin. so i spent some money and got some very nice .berlin domains
btw check preregs for .koeln on UD .. u will not belive that count

we have to say that 1&1 sold about 10k .berlin domains
as an german the .berlin is free for 1 year on 1&1

Read my comment – I wrote “…and in year with 99% drop rate” – That’s NOT 5 minutes – It is what it’s going to be. If people don’t get those names free, we would see up to 1k of registration now. So…?

1k registration? Are you serious? Only a couple of the worst new gTLDs got 1k registrations. .Berlin is one of the best so far.

lets say the drop will be about 30% after 1 year
30% of 10k is 3k
3k is 10% of all 30k .berlin
i think 10% drop for this commercial is ok
if I look into my ngtld portfolio. its about 20% because of mistakes and happy buys -.- arghs
.berlin is free for germans for a year? that would definitely effect numbers. i have also read that the terms state berlin domains must be put to use in 12 months or less.
These numbers mean nothing to me until year 2 – this will reflect the true numbers.

I think you miss the point. you need to think big.
most of the new gTLD, in optimic scenario, will be under 50,000 domains.some of them will reach 100,000 domains.
I think that when people will understand what is UNO and the potential, it will be above 1M
in a few months.
