Many readers ask me what my favorite new extension is. There is not a definite answer as I strongly believe in good left-right combinations and not so much in individual extensions although it is clear as to what the winning extensions are so far. And no, I don’t judge by registration numbers alone.
Some of you will remember the post where I talked about my $50,000 investment in New gTLDs and a follow up post to that.
Numbers tell the truth most of the time so I decided to find out and post here what New gTLDs I have bought since the beginning of 2014 when the first New gTLDs came out.
These are the 15 extensions for which I have 10 domains or more:
|Extension||# of domains|
This top 15 represents 62% of all my new gtld domains. I have domains in 82 different extensions. In 31 of these extensions I only have 1 domain name.
So in the other 36 extensions I have between 2 and 9 domains.
Some extensions I bought because I am more of an end-user (see .domains and my developed Sold.Domains), some because they were both interesting and cheap but most because I liked the left-right combinations. I don’t care if the extension has 5k or 5m domain registrations as long as the left-right combination makes sense.
I think that the only anomaly in my new gtld portfolio is .photos. I think this is because it was one of the first to came out AND it was priced right. I guess I might drop a few of these this month.
I only have 10 domains that have a renewal of $100 or more and I plan to drop a few of those and bring down my average New gTLD renewal rate that is at about $40 at the moment.
I had about 562 New gTLDs at the end of 2016 and that is about 6.5% of my domain name portfolio. (I have about 8,600 domains including my .gr domains.) I will drop a few in 2017.
What are your plans for 2017?
I don’t own any of your top 15. Ones that I have are:
But I only own a few of each. Sold one new gtld so far (.world), had a few inquiries overall.
I agree about the power of the combination.
Great gTLD portfolio diversification. Not to mention, that you remain unbiased on the particular gTLDs that you favor.
The left/right or keyword+gTLD combination is important to keep in mind, when investing in new gTLD domains. Going after every keyword in every extension is the fastest way to losing money.
I like the new gTLD’s that match the extension nicely.
I have now.
1 – .City
1 – .Directory
1 – .Business
1 – .Christmas
1 – .Games
1 – .Pro
1 – .Club
1 – .Site
2 – .Shop
4 – .CO
3 – .xyz
.CO is not a new gTLD that’s a ccTLD.
You will drop these. Just like .XXX which I know you dropped. 🙂
I am interested in the real estate business. So,
Around 10 in total.
I like .media too
Here they are
I also like real estate names and have (1) “city”.condos and (1) “city”.rentals name.
Also, Konstantinos, have you acquired any xyz names yet? Or are you still a non-believer? I haven’t followed your purchases closely, so I’m just curious.
No .xyz for me.
I didn’t buy them when they launched. Why would I buy them after millions have sold?
So true, the best ones are long gone. I think it’s the same for all new GTLD’s. If you don’t get in early for the best of the best in the new G’s, it’s not worth having.
I don’t own any of your top 15 and I wouldn’t want to register them for free.
I only have :
.Media .Global, .Digital, .Direct have had the most interest in my portfolio.
.Media – My #1 pick reg’d 3L and 4L @ 42.00
.Club, .Energy, .Tech, .Digital .Shop for long hold
.Green, .Plus, .Gold, 2017-18 development. (in addition to .com)
.beer, .dog, .blue, .red just because.
Spot on. Combinations is what makes the difference.
