My favorite new domain extensions (562 domains in 82 extensions)

Many readers ask me what my favorite new extension is. There is not a definite answer as I strongly believe in good left-right combinations and not so much in individual extensions although it is clear as to what the winning extensions are so far. And no, I don’t judge by registration numbers alone.

Some of you will remember the post where I talked about my $50,000 investment in New gTLDs and a follow up post to that.

Numbers tell the truth most of the time so I decided to find out and post here what New gTLDs I have bought since the beginning of 2014 when the first New gTLDs came out.

These are the 15 extensions for which I have 10 domains or more:

This top 15 represents 62% of all my new gtld domains. I have domains in 82 different extensions. In 31 of these extensions I only have 1 domain name.

So in the other 36 extensions I have between 2 and 9 domains.

Some extensions I bought because I am more of an end-user (see .domains and my developed Sold.Domains), some because they were both interesting and cheap but most because I liked the left-right combinations. I don’t care if the extension has 5k or 5m domain registrations as long as the left-right combination makes sense.

I think that the only anomaly in my new gtld portfolio is .photos. I think this is because it was one of the first to came out AND it was priced right. I guess I might drop a few of these this month.

I only have 10 domains that have a renewal of $100 or more and I plan to drop a few of those and bring down my average New gTLD renewal rate that is at about $40 at the moment.

I had about 562 New gTLDs at the end of 2016 and that is about 6.5% of my domain name portfolio. (I have about 8,600 domains including my .gr domains.) I will drop a few in 2017.
