GoDaddy Purchases The Domain GDDY.com Through Right of the Dot

godaddyGoDaddy Inc. (NYSE: GDDY) announced it has bought the domain name  GDDY.com that correspondents to its New York Stock Exchange ticker.

When visited, GDDY.com takes individuals to GoDaddy’s Investor Relations page, enabling anyone to quickly find out more about the company.

The seller of the domain name was KingNic.com from China. The domain name has been owned by various Chinese entities since at least 2004 according to DomainTools.com. The domain was originally registered in December 2003. The price was not disclosed.

Right of the Dot, LLC, a domain name consulting service, helped broker the sale of the name.

“We knew the majority of people typing in GDDY.com would want to know more about the company, so it made sense to get the name and point it to our Investor Relations page,” said GoDaddy Senior Vice President and General Manager, Domains Mike McLaughlin. “There are a lot of companies, large and small, that miss the opportunity to use domain names to make it easy for visitors. The right domain name gets visitors exactly where they want to go, eliminating extra steps and time.”

About 20 percent of the Fortune 500 have their stock ticker as a domain name. Of the nearly 100 domain names, only two use it to direct people to their investor relations page. Most have their domain names pointing to their home page.

“Our goal is to help small businesses be successful and part of that is informing them about best practices,” McLaughlin continued. “And to give credit where it’s due, RightOfTheDot, LLC did a great job in helping us get the name in a timely and affordable fashion.”

“As a valued partner, when we saw what the GoDaddy stock symbol was going to be and knowing how important this would be for them, we immediately began the acquisition process for GoDaddy” said RightOfTheDot’s President and Director, Monte Cahn. “We have helped hundreds of companies with premium and strategic domain acquisitions and sales for branding, online naming projects, products and services, revenue generation, etc. in all kinds of key words and domain extensions.”

“GoDaddy gets it as on online industry leader so having the right domain name for their investors was a smart acquisition on all sides.”
