What fascinates me are the numbered domains. As we’ve discussed, we see some big sales, mainly from Asians who seem to buy them more than the west.
The funny thing is seeing $1,625 for 79290.com… but only $30 for 34057.com. Both are just 5 digit numbers. If one were a famous zip code like Beverly Hills … 90210, I could understand the gap, but they both seem equally random.
$30 barely covers the cost of the registration + fees…. yet the other is over $1600. Strange.
I hate SpamBots. I can’t imagine why they even exist. Do the people who use them actually think it gets them any traffic at all?
I too have been following these 5 digit numbers and have found myself wondering sometimes about these different prices.
I have seen many 6 digit numbers selling for more than $30.
The only thing I can think of are local portals targeted at specific zip codes, so the value of each one will vary depending on the population and types of businesses they solicit.
The funny thing in the case of 79290.com, which sold for $1695, that’s not a zip code, so I’m truly stumped.
The only reason i can think of here is, the chinese consider 4 to be an unlucky number and so the 30$ for that domain. Its probably all numerology and noone will ever know what it means, other that the chinese, ofcourse.
Damn it! I must own the unluckiest 3 number .org: 444.org.
