.xxx anniversary today – Have you renewed your .xxx domains?

It is the first anniversary today since the official launch of the .xxx TLD. Since ICM Registry’s mistake, putting 1000+ premium priced .xxx up for sale just before .xxx turns one, I have reevaluated my investment on .xxx. I still like .xxx domains but the prices on these premium domains are pretty low, especially on 2 word domains. So this devaluation has decreased significally my renewal percentage.

I have renewed all my one word .xxx domains (e.g. neighbor.xxx, bride.xxx, hosts.xxx, trademarks.xxx) and I am still debating if I am going to renew or not a couple of my 2 word domains. I am dropping all my other two word .xxx domains. (e.g. feetsex.xxx, petiteporn.xxx, voyeurporn.xxx)

If you are planning to renew at the last minute here are the cheapest prices for .xxx renewals and transfers. Please note that .xxx domain name transfers from one registrar to another take 5 days. The same as with all the other major gTLDs (.com .net .org.info .biz). Some registrars offer a grace period for renewal of .xxx domain names. 101domain.com offers a 40 day grace period for renewal of .xxx domain names without incurring an additional fee. Redemption period lasts 30 days after the grace period. Renewals during this period cost an additional fee of about $150.

What do you think is going to happen with the .xxx registration number after this first year anniversary? What percentage of .xxx domains are going to be renewed? The $69+ registration/renewal cost makes it difficult for people to keep medium/low value domains for future development or resale. Even defensive registrations will be deleted too if I can judge from threads like this. I predict that about 40% of the original (Dec. 6, 2011) .xxx registrations are going to be dropped this year.

What do you think? How many of these registrations will be around to take advantage of the $75 credit offered by the ICM Registry to be used against ads at search.xxx?

Would you like to see all my renewed and dropped .xxx domains? Let me know…

  1. I renew all my 13 .xxx domains with $68+ each.

  2. Any follow-up to this story?

While I continue to support .XXX, I also predicted a large drop in registrations after yr 1. Has there been any word from ICM Reg? They should have the renewal data by now, though they are likely under no obligation to share it.
