Punto 2012 (using the CentralNic backend) launched 2 of it’s New gTLDs yesterday: .bar and .rest.
The first day, or rather first hours, registration numbers were ok for .bar, especially considering the $70 registration fee, and pretty bad for .rest. .Bar had 1,226 domain registrations and .Rest 307 registrations. These numbers include the Sunrise registrations.
This is what I said yesterday on the weekly New gTLD post:
“.Bar is a nice alternative for bars. .Rest I simply don’t like. I don’t like the abbreviations and these “short for” New gTLDs like .onl for online.”
Of course the registry has reserved most of the good domains so I didn’t buy any .bar domains although I liked a few.
Today 15th of July .Wien enters general availability. Vienna (Wien in German) is the capital and largest city of Austria so this geo New gTLD would do pretty good.
(I am always comparing the same first hours for all New gTLDs. The hours between General Availability and the first zone files update.)
i bought a few .wien domains.
atm it looks like there is an issue with the whois. i hope all is going fine with that domain
