Future Media Architects (FMA) dropped 4,726 3-letter .biz domains (most are now available)

Last month I wrote how a domaining company Future Media Architects (FMA) dropped 2,737 3-letter .info domain names.

I now checked the 17,576 three letter .biz combinations and found that FMA has dropped almost all of their .biz domains. And although he dropped almost 70% of his 3-letter .info collection he now dropped almost all his .biz domains! FMA now has almost 3.6% of the .biz domains they once had. They dropped

4,726 .biz domains.

Future Media Architects, Inc. (FMA) is owned by domainer Thunayan K AL-Ghanim (aka “Elequa”). FMA is known for not selling any domain names.

So it used to be that all 3-letter combinations for .biz were registered but not anymore. .Com, .net, .org, .info and .us(?) are still holding.

FMA had about 4901 .biz domains registered. Most were acquired in 2003 and 2004 when FMA registered about 2500 .info domains and about 4600 .biz domains.

The interesting thing is that when I removed all the .biz domains that had the average quality letters (J, K, U, V, W) and the lower quality letters (Q, X, Y, Z), only 2 (two) domains were left. Yes, just TWO: mhb.biz and gho.biz are pending delete.

All the other 4,724 .biz domains had at least one of these lesser quality letters in them.

FMA now owns about 175 .biz domains like:
sht.biz
dvo.biz
drv.biz
ofm.biz
rlt.biz
ond.biz
rmm.biz
ula.biz
sou.biz
ekc.biz
ouu.biz
dnu.biz

Fma.biz is not owned by FMA.

FMA dropped 4,726 .biz domains like:
bvq.biz
lqu.biz
leq.biz
lut.biz
lsx.biz
vyy.biz
nxl.biz
zwq.biz
zce.biz
xnd.biz
lgu.biz

548 .biz were registered after they dropped such as:
ueu.biz
lln.biz
vua.biz
olr.biz
nff.biz
mdj.biz
qdq.biz
gjw.biz

4151 .biz domains are free now like:
zlr.biz
dxy.biz
sgu.biz
jzb.biz
pqx.biz
rxq.biz
qtg.biz
qfh.biz
lwu.biz
zxh.biz

Very few are still in a pending delete state.

So I have to ask once again: is this happening because of the New gTLDs and the large supply of 3-letter domains?

  1. Dot .biz never took off, so that comes as no surprise. Even for Elequa, owning such a large portfolio of domains he’d never sell, it can get fairly expensive.

  2. Who in their right name…

  3. Yeah, they also dropped a bunch of .TV’s – Explore.TV, Music.TV and Buzz.TV to mention a few. The .TV drops were unfortunately not intentional though.

  4. Umm I’d do the same.been dropping .com .net, and .co low and mid ends in a cleansing exercise. It probably a holding or hoarding fund for them now on the blink of being disrupted. They should have sold a long time ago

  5. Even a domain collector like him has to do some house cleaning from time to time. Not to mention, names like these are just gathering dust and doing nothing.

  6. Most people have no idea what a .biz is. I think .info and .us have more developed sites. He could have at least shopped some of those around though.

  7. What i noticed that in the last few months there are suddenly more premium .com and other “classifc” TLDs up for sale / auction. So with all these mass droppings i suspect more and more domainers start to refocus on the new gTLDs. Renewal funds used for not premium / below average domains might be diverted to new gTLDs. Smart move i’d say, it shows domainers are adapting to a new world.

  8. PS: in addition to my previous comment, i still reg from time to time .com / .net etc since i believe a good domain remains a good domain 🙂

I agree that new GTLDs are beginning to affect some marginal domains. Still to early to draw any conclusion now. At least 3 years needed.
