7 new gTLD domains sold for $12,540 a piece at GoDaddy: nature.photography, color.photography

Donuts entered general availability for the following new gTLDs: .camera .equipment .estate .gallery .graphics .lighting .photography. 7 new gTLD domains sold for $12,539,99 a piece in the past 24 hours and all of them were registered at Go Daddy. 4 of the domains were .photography, 2 were .equipment and 1 was .estate. $10,000 of each domain name sold went to Donuts and the rest to Go Daddy.

Here are the 7 domain names:
metallographic.equipment
sampleprep.equipment
immobilier.estate
nature.photography
color.photography
product.photography
blackandwhite.photography

Let’s start from the first 2 domain names:
sampleprep.equipment
metallographic.equipment

These were registered by a company in Michigan that offers Sample Prep Equipment and Supplies. While metallographicequipment.com is taken by a different company, the domain name sampleprepequipment.com is available to register. metallographic.net and metallographic.org are also available. I think that this was clearly a costly mistake.

Immobilier.estate was bought by a financial company from the Nederlands whose website (financial-media.nl) is not resolving at this time. You’ve guessed it: Immobilierestate.com is available to register. Immobilier is French for immovable .

Someone from Illiois bought both blackandwhite.photography and color.photography.

A company called Photo Safaris (photosafaris.com) bought the domain name nature.photography.

Finally a company called ProductPhotography.com, LLC bought the matching product.photography domain name.

There is still more time today for more of these $12,539,99 domain name purchases.

You can register a (.camera .equipment .estate .gallery .graphics .lighting .photography) domain name using the Donuts EAP that is available in registrars that sell Donuts gTLDs. EAP prices start at about $12,500 and are lowered within the course of the week until they reach the regular registration cost after the 7 day period.

Go Daddy’s early access prices are $12,539.99 for day one, $3,164.99 for day two, $1,239.99 for day three, $689.99 for day four and $189.99 for days five to seven. After day seven the regular registration cost applies.

  1. Your coverage of the “New G’s” rolling out is exceptional…

  2. “the domain name sampleprepequipment.com is available to register”

.LOL. Looks like someone registered it.

I think there are a lot of confused people and companies right now. I expect there to be several refunds or chargebacks when people realize what is going on.

  3. sample preparation equipment is available to if anyone wants it, save yourself 5 figures lol

  4. I don’t get this company, they could have saved themselves $25K, I didn’t think the sample preperation equipment space was that big.

  5. samplepreparation.equipment: free to register

  6. I suspect immobilier is a European real estate brand (hence forthcoming gtld .immo).

I think .estate should have been the winning tld between it and .realestate.

  7. Incidentally I think the company with the equipment domains were absolutely right to target consistency over preference for older tld’s.

They would have been sitting on old tld’s for the sake of it whilst targetting extremely niche search terms.

They could probably have got them cheaper. I can understand why they paid up given that they could not otherwise guarantee having uniform domain marcomms.

  8. To leave the exact match .com’s unregistered for $8 let’s you know they are good at making sample prep equipment, and not so much at seo.

I think your pov thinking you .equipment makes .com aged, and old contradicts what any industry expert has stated, that doesn’t have a stake in a new gtld.

  9. I suspect the business in question couldn’t care less about seo. For one of their search strings there are only 30 searches/month in the US.

Based on the above, the collective pov seems to be that they should have had one .com and one .org/.net etc. To have that inconsistency in their marketing communications ( and I would argue that their marcomms are probably more important than their seo by the sounds of things) would look pretty amateur.

To that end, having a consistent approach to their two domains sounds like good business sense.

They should have scored the one .com available I agree, but defensively. Squatting on those domains sounds as much fun as sitting amongst tumbleweed though, just less productive.

  10. I grabbed just one .guru only to find i cannot list it on sedo ….. say what?

  11. Regarding age of a tld, while the big companies like hotel.com and the like are advertising on Tv The era of .com being relevant will continue ……..strongly

  12. immobilierestate.com gone too!

  13. As always, more money than common sense in this industry.

  14. Unbelievable that the prices these are getting can be so high. Doesn’t make any sense

  15. WIth .rich every domain name is unbelievably priced

  16. Those are really long names. Long and stupid. No wait – long, stupid AND expensive. Very bad combination. Gtld’s clearly on their way out.
