Bono opens the Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) in Washington, DC at Georgetown University. The frontman of U2 and founder of ONE and other cause-based organizations is delivering the keynote address on social enterprise and the power of social movement to create change. The event is being broadcast live at 5:30 pm ET.
(It is no secret that U2 is my favorite band and I have been following them for about 25 years.)
Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) is the world’s largest celebration of the innovators and job creators who launch startups that bring ideas to life, drive economic growth and expand human welfare.
The initiative kicked off in 2008, launched by former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Carl Schramm, the president and CEO of the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation. Since then, it has grown to 115 countries—with nearly 24,000 partner organizations planning more than 37,000 activities that directly engage more than 7 million people.
In November 2012, 130 countries host Global Entrepreneurship Week. Almost 40,000 events will occur around the world during GEW.
