Here are the 1st day domain name registration results from this week’s 7 New gTLD launches:
On the 1st of December, 2 Russian geo New gTLDs launched: .moscow and .МОСКВА (xn--80adxhks). Moscow is the capital city and the most populous federal subject of Russia. Moscow has a population of 11,503,501 people. .Moscow got 3,651 domains on its first day while .МОСКВА (xn--80adxhks) got 3,245 domains.
On the 2nd of December, another big geo New gTLD launched: .Paris. Paris is the capital and most populous city of France. Paris has a 12,292,895 metropolitan population. .Paris had 8,037 domains after the first day of general availability.
On the 2nd of December Afilias launched .ltda and only got 59 domains. Registration is open for all interested parties with a registered LTDA company.
On the 2nd of December .gal launched. The .gal registry, PuntoGal, is an initiative that is trying to obtain its own domain on the Internet for the Galician language and culture. It got 1,139 domains on its first day.
On the 3rd of December .eus entered General availability and had 1,811 domains.
On the 4th of December .bzh is entering General availability. The numbers will be updated tomorrow.
The “New gTLD 1st Day Registrations” include sunrise domain names as well as any domains registered by the registry or any founder’s program. Any registry is allowed to register up to 100 domains for it’s own use and give out another 100 as part of the New gTLD founder’s program.
