Sedo Adds A Minimum Sales Commission Fee To Parked Domains

sedoStarting October 21, 2014, Sedo added a 50 EUR/USD or 35 GBP minimum sales commission fee to all domains. Up until that time parked domains with Sedo didn’t have a minimum sales commission.

Sedo actually says that this increase is “Standardization of Sedo’s sales commission rates“. Fancy way to call an increase in fees.

“Every category 1 domain which is sold via the Sedo Marketplace or SedoMLS will have a minimum commission of 50 EUR/USD or 35 GBP. This also affects domains which are parked and for sale with fixed prices. In return you get a secure and trusted intermediary for the escrow of your funds and transfers of your domain names.

Does this mean that sales were not secure before this fee was introduced? I guess not. Marketing at its best! In other words: “we increase fees and you get the same service”.

“More and more new TLDs can be transferred for only 50 EUR/USD (or 35 GBP). This currently applies to 250 different TLDs at Sedo and is growing at an ever-increasing rate. Detailed information on prices and supported domains can be found on our price list.”

Yes, there are more domains because New gTLDs are out. Not because of this change.

I left Sedo 2 years ago when they send all my domains to Go Daddy and refused to remove them. Ironically Go Daddy ditched Sedo.

Just to be clear. Here is the old fee price list:

Sale Type Commission
Buy Now sale originating on Sedo’s Domain Marketplace
in which the domain is also parked3 with Sedo
10% of sale price
(minimum fee applies for category II TLDs)
Sale originating on Sedo’s Domain Marketplace 15% of sale price (minimum fee applies)
Sale originating on the SedoMLS® Promotion Network 20% of sale price (minimum fee applies)
Sale originating on the SedoMLS® Promotion Network that is sold as Buy Now and is also parked3 with Sedo. 20% of sale price (minimum fee applies for category II TLDs)

And here is the new one:

Sale Type Commission
Buy Now sale originating on Sedo’s Domain Marketplace
in which the domain is also parked3 with Sedo
10% of sale price
(minimum fee applies)
Sale originating on Sedo’s Domain Marketplace 15% of sale price (minimum fee applies)
Sale originating on the SedoMLS® Promotion Network 20% of sale price (minimum fee applies)

As you can see only parked “category II TLDs” had a minimum fee.

Category I TLDs are:

  1. parking Domains on SEDO was a BS and now its a big BS

  2. $10 for the owner, with $60 godaddy offers all day, had to delete my entire portfolio there because of that. Before that I did mid 5 figures with them pretty much for two consecutive years.

Sedo could have been something better, it is really a shame.

  3. I moved my domains to IT/DNS a long time ago and I’ll never park them with Sedo:

    – Parking revenue is next to zero
    – Higher and higher commissions
    – No innovation and the platform has been practically the same for ages

I fail to find a single reason to stay with them.

  4. Been using domainnamesales.com. It has taken me a while to optimize to y portfolio, but it is definitely best at bringing return leads and following up with old buyers once i forward sales emails to the system.

  5. there is no money to make with parking a few cents a transaction it,s a joke

  6. It seems like across the board domainer’s continue to take a hit. Sales are down so let’s increase our commision to make up the difference seems to be what every one is thinking.
This just adds to the great burden that domainer’s are already feeling.

It is now practically impossible to make money in the domain business anymore all thanks
to a few greedy moves by a few of the industries big players.

I personally like SEDO, and their site is much improved now and even their parking
program is not bad (not as good as Bodis, but still ok) but I am dissappointed
in this move. Everybody I know in the domain industry is currently taking a bath
including myself and stuff like this is just adding an additional burden.

  7. We’re making a push to increase our Domain Catalog, and with improved verification processes, we’re adding many thousands per day…

Soon to come: Bulk CSV uploading, better Portfolio management and more.

As mentioned on this blog not too long ago, our minimum fee was obliterated so now it’s simply free to list and a flat 10% commission if sold. Happy to speak to anyone with questions or interest!
