I got a press release today saying that .xyz enters “Domainer-Friendly Landrush: thousands of names like gamble.xyz, whiskey.xyz and bids.xyz up for grabs”.
Here is the Press Release: May 28, 2014
Following a Sunrise that saw world-leading brands secure their trademarks under .xyz, the first generic new TLD to hit the market is now in Landrush, making thousands of premium names available to the global general public at regular landrush prices.
.xyz entered its landrush period with the most domainer-friendly policies of any TLD, as part of its wider strategy of becoming what NPR recently described as “the next .com.”
.xyz’s domainer-friendly policies include:
– virtually every domain is available – less than 3,000 names have been reserved (as compared to tens and hundreds of thousands for other gTLDs)
– all .xyz domains are available for the standard registration fee – no premium pricing
– all .xyz landrush domains renew at the standard renewal rate, making it affordable to hold a portfolio of .xyz domains
.xyz is owned by Daniel Negari, himself a successful domain investor with a track record of buying and selling over $100 million worth of domains. “With experience as a domain investor, I understand the importance of releasing great domains at affordable prices to give investors the opportunity to make a commercial rate of return”, commented Daniel.
“Unlike most TLD operators trying to extract as much from domainers as possible through high prices for premiums and recurring premium prices, .xyz is positioning itself as the new .com – giving domainers the opportunity to buy anything they want at landrush, and then benefit from .xyz’s unprecedented global marketing campaign to enjoy the increase in values that comes from global demand”, said Ben Crawford, CEO of CentralNic.
.xyz domains are now available through leading registrars worldwide including Go Daddy, Name.com, 123-Reg, and Network Solutions. Click here to view a complete list of available landrush names or visit www.gen.xyz/premiums. Landrush ends at 12.00 UTC on June 2.
.xyz, the newly launched domain extension for every website, everywhere, is led by Founder Daniel Negari, a visionary Internet entrepreneur with years of experience in the domain name space. Located in Las Vegas and Beverly Hills, the innovative registry operator is bringing new unrestricted global domain extensions including .xyz, .College and .Now to the Internet.
The general public is currently able to priority register .xyz domain names in order to reserve their names before the global launch on June 2. Open registration will be treated on a first-come-first-served basis starting on June 2. For more information about .xyz, visit www.gen.xyz.

Another junk extension is coming … here we go … lol … .xyz is a joke … good luck!
Although I am just going to buy 1 domain for my xyz email, I like the strategy and the guys rational behind it. Especially this line
“Unlike most TLD operators trying to extract as much from domainers as possible through high prices for premiums and recurring premium prices, .xyz is positioning itself as the new .com – giving domainers the opportunity to buy anything they want at landrush, and then benefit from .xyz’s unprecedented global marketing campaign to enjoy the increase in values that comes from global demand”
That would have worked if the extension was any good.
Too bad it’s one of the worst.
Maybe they can do something with .college…
I know its a crap shoot. Cmon how long can one need to be in college to justify owning the college domain? you wouldn’t try to get a domain like yale.college .com would you?
No I would get greek.college.
ooh that makes sense. Did you pre-reg that?
No, I don’t it’s time for .college yet.
I agree, no need to reserve anything if it is not worth anything. I am looking forward to over inflated numbers.@, and stupid trademark violations.
abc.xyz might be cool but of course that is one they are keeping for themselves.
.xyz domain starts with abc.xyz and ends with abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvw.xyz both are reserved nothing else to sell.
It will be funny to watch what`s going on with this extension.
I cannot think of any worse extension than .xyz.
It looks horrible.
