The first Greek ICANN accredited registrar finally arrived. I have been waiting for many years for a registrar located in Greece and it finally happened. Papaki.gr has signed the Registrar Accreditation Agreement (RAA) 2013 and is listed at the ICANN accredited registrar list. Papaki.gr is accredited for the following TLDs: .aero .asia .biz .cat .com .coop .info .jobs .mobi .museum .name .net .org .pro .tel .travel and .xxx.
Having signed the RAA 2013 also means that it can sign agreements to offer any of the New gTLDs.
This is big news for all Greek registrants and domainers as we now have the option to transfer all domains to a Greek registrar and have any UDRP jurisdiction located in Greece. This will allow people that face reverse domain name hijacking attempts to fight any bad UDRP decisions in a Greek court of law and thus have cheaper legal costs.
Papaki.gr will also be a good fit for people looking for a European registrar.
Papaki.gr is the number 1 registrar in Greece in terms of domain name registrations both in .gr and .eu domains. It has been accredited for .gr and .eu for many years now.
.Com is being sold at 9.5 Euro ($11.66) (plus VAT if applicable). It is a bit expensive but if you have 40+ domain names you can get a 20% discount. That will bring the .com price down to $9.33.
I only have a few .gr domains with papaki.gr but I will soon be testing its new services.
Papaki in Greek means “small duck” and it is how Greeks call the @ symbol in email addresses.
Thank you Papaki!
Great News!
Now if only they’d fix the antiquated WHOIS system at http://www.gr 😉
I never called ‘@’ papaki and whoever came up with that reference had a lot of imagination.
WHOIS system will not be fixed any time soon.
Sometimes I have to call @ papaki because I can’t communicate an email address in any other way… 🙁
That’s a very positive development for the land of my ancestors!
Cyprus also has a single ICANN-accredited registrar, by the way (ITPAN.com). Although, that might just be the place of incorporation….visiting their homepage, they list an address in Gibraltar rather than in Cyprus.
Congrats to Papaki, we definitely need more good registrars here in Europe.
And they have also Papaki badges for discounts!
Quack quack! 😀
Quack! 🙂
