Famous Four Media launched their first 3 New gTLDs yesterday: .BID, .TRADE, and .WEBCAM. Despite making an announcement of a $175,000 sale for 15 .webcam domain names before launch, the results from the first day were not so encouraging.
.Bid did particularly bad with only 506 registrations after the first few hours of General Availability. .Trade and .Webcam did better with 3,235 and 3,675 registrations respectively. These numbers include sunrise registrations and a few registry owned domains.
To get a sense of these numbers .directory had 3,682 registrations after it’s first GA day.
I did try to pre-register a few .webcam domains but all domains I tried were reserved. The $175k sale included domains such as tube.webcam, asian.webcam and milf.webcam. I didn’t try too much as .webcam has a lot of competition from .camera that is already out and .cam that is coming in a few months.
I don’t know about you @k but am staying outta all
Tried also quite some .webcams but not a single one was available. I think they basically sucked out all the good and reasonable names from .webcam.
UPDATE:
Looks like most of .webcam and .trade were registered by a single investor before GA.
Taken from Domain Name Brokers news:
”
One investor responsible for most initial domain name registrations in .webcam and .trade.
A single domain name investor was responsible for the bulk of domain name registrations of Famous Four Media’s domain names launched yesterday.
.Webcam added 3,655 domain names to reach 3,678. Approximately 3,100 of them were registered at registrar Encirca by a single domain name investor.
.Trade got 3,197 registrations to reach 3,235. I count nearly 2,400 of them registered by this same investor
