Roland Garros (Fédération Française de Tennis) going after many domains in UDRP

Fédération Française de Tennis that runs the Roland Garros Grand Slam tennis tournament is going after a lot of domain names lately using the Uniform Domain-Name Dispute-Resolution Policy (UDRP).

The official Roland Garros website is located at rolandgarros.com. Roland Garros is also know as the French Open tennis tournament.

Fédération Française de Tennis has won 3 UDRP complaints lately. The first was for the domain name rolandgarrostickets.com and the other was for the domain frenchopen2014.com. Just in time for this years French Open that runs from May 25th to June 8th 2014 in Paris‎.

They also won the UDRP complaint for these 6 domain names against Ticketfinders International LLC:
frenchopen2018.com
frenchopen2018.net
frenchopen2019.com
frenchopen2019.net
frenchopen2020.com
frenchopen2020.net

Fédération Française de Tennis won french-open.org in UDRP earlier this year and the domain rolandgarros.co in 2011.

What is interesting is that these domains are free to register:
frenchopen2015.com
frenchopen2016.com
frenchopen2017.com
(plus wwwrolandgarros.com)

While the Fédération Française de Tennis owns the .net versions:
frenchopen2015.net
frenchopen2016.net
frenchopen2017.net

This is called poor domain name management and is usually paid in lawyer and UDRP fees.

  1. Why go for the open when you can have the whole country?
    I own:

    France2015.com
    Greece2015.com
    Japan2015.com
    China2019.com

…and hundreds more of the country type. It’s clearly a violation to register actual events.
