My 2013 5-figure Domain Name Sales

A few days back I posted my 4-figure domain name purchases in 2013. Of course, as a domain investor I always try to buy low and sell high. I don’t ever sell below my minimum offer price that is set for all my domain names: $1500. Some may find this price a bit high but others will find it low.

Up until a couple of years ago I would only do maybe one 5-figure sale every year. But lately I have noticed that the demand for quality domain names has increased so my pricing has been more aggressive. The result was that I made eight 5-figure domain name sales in 2013.

Here are the eight 5-figure domain name deals in 2013:
3 .com
1 .com sale is pending (Buyer has made a $2000+ deposit)
1 .com was sold in installments (Buyer has paid 2 out of 6 installments so far)
2 .org
and I made a multi-domain 5 figure sale for a set of 1-2 word .biz domains.

The 7 individual sales consisted of 4 2-word .com, 1 1-word .com and 2 1-word .org domains.

All the above sales were done privately using an escrow service such as escrow.com. Not at any domain name sales venue or auction.  3 sales involved a contract. Also none of these sales were reported on any blog or domain name sales list with the exception of 1 .org domain that was sold at Sedo (using the sedo escrow service).

2 .com and 1 .org of the domain I have sold are already being used with active websites. In fact 2 of them are high profile websites that you could have already visited in you are into running or blogging. More on this on another post…

Of course I have sold many domains in the 4-figure range. A few for as high as $8,000 or $9,000 that didn’t make to the list above. I have found that the small business sweat spot has been in the $2,500-$5,000 range and closer to $3,500. Most of the inquiries for personal/school/community projects end up with no sale because these are offers in the $500 range.

I also sell a lot of .info but none of that made it to 5 figures in 2013. I also sold a few .us domains, 1 .net and no .xxx domains at all.

2014 is off to a great start. I have already made a 5 figure .org sale and have received a 5-figure offer on a 3-word .com domain name. My goal is to make my first 6-figure sale in 2014…

  1. Uhh, congratulations!
But now I want! 🙂 ABSOLUTELY know how you did each sale.
Seriously, it is really important I think, for all. Can you explain how occurred each sales? What domains were parked and where? Or maybe you or a borker contacted the buyer/s? If so what domains were sold in this way?
Did you have domains not parked among the ones that sold, maybe with a simple contact form?
etc.etc. I think it would be very useful knowing those details even for .info or other domains sold for low prices.
Thank you so much in advance, I am sure you will help all giving those informations even taking all the time you need of course to summarize those info

  2. Great data, I know how hard it is to do 5-6 figure sales, sometimes, it can take months to get a reply, but sometimes the ones that take the longest, are the sweetest.

  3. Congratulations Konstantinos. March on!!

  4. Awesome to hear how successful you are in selling short domains, good on ya!

Gives us all some added confidence that some of our own short domains may do just as well as yours…..

  5. Congrats on those sales! Wish you all the best for this year in achieving your goal of selling a domain in 6 figs.

Am I right if I say you own 8.8k domains?

  6. Thanks for sharing your experiences, Konstantinos. I have several premium names I would like to sell this year, but have a lot to learn on the sales and marketing side of things. Kind Regards!
