Dot Com is Dead? Seriously? Is Mind + Machines trying to get domainers mad?

Minds + Machines is currently running a Facebook ad that says “Dot Com is Dead” and below it says “Long live the new Top Level Domains”. I won’t even comment of this “Dot Com is Dead” slogan. It’s pointless.

But really “Dot Com is Dead”? Is Mind + Machines so desperate?
They have to be if they resort to the what should have been their last marketing stunt. Or their marketing team is overambitious.

And do you know who are the only people that do understand what this ad means? You’ve guessed it. Domainers with lots of .com in their portfolio. Is getting domainers mad what Minds + Machine want? Well, what they really wanted was attention from all the blogs but I don’t think it was this kind of attention they were looking for. Many say that any publicity is good publicity…

My instant review on their 5 new gTLDs that are accepting official priority reservations on the official website at http://www.mindsandmachines.COM/:

.best
Do I like it?
No.
Why?
“Best” should be on the left of the dot. To the right of the dot it doesn’t make any sense to me.

.casa
Do I like it?
No.
Why?
Very limited and for mainly for italians.

.ceo
Do I like it?
No.
Why?
It is a novelty new gTLD. Good for a laugh, but nothing else.

.cooking
Do I like it?
No.
Why?
I don’t like the “ing” in TLDs. And .food is going to be so much better.

.horse
Do I like it?
No.
Why?
Extremely limited. Race, buy, sell, bet and a few others are nice domains but then what?

Do I like other new gTLDs?
Yes.
Do I like other new gTLDS from Minds + Machines?
Yes, but they are off to a bad start.

  1. As a whole, the gtld’s are painfully dumb and, in my humble opinion, will all be rejected by the masses. I like how you itemized each one and explained why each was bad. I anticipate that people will use the same reasoning to eliminate each and every one since practically all of them fail the confusion and usability test. Also, each will leak traffic to their .com couterpart, a serious problem. I predict that .com will come out the winner in this fiasco of a rollout.

  2. I agree with you. I don’t think they are off to a great start.

  3. I actually found the ad really funny. They should withdraw all their applications and get some money back at least.

  4. So why are you giving them attention
    It worked

  5. .casa has a hispanic market as well, but let’s face it… end users are clueless about gtld;s they need domainer money to get them started, they might have put their foot in their mouth. All these extensions have a few good phrases everything else is pigeon shit… Even Wolfgang Puck backed out of endorsing .food…

These guys are has beens in the industry, if anyone is ancient, it is them, and their business plans…

  6. New TLDs = http://youtu.be/scgO8Vfh1qU

Pigeon sh*t, to spell it out for you.

  7. I prefer .GG to .HORSE for equine purposes.

(You have to be English or Australian to understand that, probably)

  8. Today both guys are gone from the company, .com is alive and well, there careers are not doing so good.
