ICANN sends notice of breach to New Zealand registrar Pacnames: one of the worst registrars!

It seems that Pacnames didn’t provide an auth code to the owner within the 5 day time limit. Pacnamesused to catch domains for Snapnames but I am not sure if that is still going on. I used to transfer my domains away from Pacnames as soon as the 60 day time limit passed. They always made it unreasonably hard to transfer out any domain names.

Pacnames had one of the worst control panels and non-existent support like most of the “monkeys” (hint) that used to catch for snapnames back in the day. If anyone knows if they still catch for snapnames please let me know. Here is a very old thread at DNForum about Pacnames. You should check it out.

The domain name in question was animeinfo.net and it is still registered with Pacnames.com.

As of 10 June 2013, 1 more ICANN accredited registrar is in breach of their Registrar Accreditation Agreement (RAA) with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).

Registrar:
Pacnames Ltd (IANA# 103)
#4211, 17B Farnham St. Parnell Auckland 1052 New Zealand

ICANN requests that the registrar cure the breaches by 1 July 2013, 15 working days from the date of the letter ICANN send to the affected registrar.

These breaches result from:

  • Pacnames Ltd:
  1. Registrar’s failure to maintain registration records as required by Section 3.4.2 of the RAA;
  2. Registrar’s failure to make available to ICANN copies of written communications between Pacnamesand the Registered Name Holder concerning the domain name <animeinfo.net>, pursuant to Section 3.4.3 of the RAA; and
  3. Registrar’s failure to provide the AuthInfo code within 5 calendar days, concerning the domain name <animeinfo.net >, Section 5 of the IRTP.
  4. Failure to pay past due accreditation fees pursuant to Section 3.9 of the RAA.

Pacnames Ltd must pay all past due accreditation fees in the amount of $1000, provide copies of all written communications between Pacnames and the Registered Name Holder for the domain name <animeinfo.net>, pursuant to Section 3.4.3 and provide the AuthInfo code to the Registered Name Holder of the domain name <animeinfo.net> pursuant to Section 5 of the IRTP; or provide ICANN with a detailed and valid explanation why the code was not and will not be provided.

After failure to timely cure the breaches and provide the information requested, ICANN may
commence the registrar termination process.
