xyz domains

Is this my best reply to domain spam?

Someone kept emailing me about a .xyz domain name he was trying to sell. I own the .com for several years and as you can imagine I wasn’t that interested in the .xyz.

This was his email:

“I hope you are well!
I am following up with you regarding BeijingGolf.xyz. My asking price is $288.
If you would like to move forward, I recommend using Escrow.com for a secure transaction and to ensure you receive your domain name.
What do you think?”

After his 3rd identical spam email I couldn’t keep myself from replying:

“Pay me $100 and I will take it off your hands.
Then I will burn it.”

He then replied:

“That’s the best reply I have received ever. I take it you’re not a .xyz fan. Are you a domain investor?”

Is this my best reply to domain spam? I don’t think so…

He then said:

I take it you’re not a .xyz fan.

No kidding!

  1. I like to reply back with an empty email to domain selling spammers. I figure if they tricked me into clicking on their email and making me read it then I will do the same back and waste just as much time as theirs.

If everyone did that it would destroy their sales ability.

  2. Meant, ….”just as much of their time”.

  3. This is the thing these guys are buying these domains for 1 penny upto $1, and they are just spamming the lights out of everyone.

If they get $200-$300 they are on top of the world, they don’t take into their time, and effort, and the fact they could probably pursue an actual career where they will yield more money.

    Get used to it.

  4. I tell them their name is shit.

Just did it 2 days ago to someone who emailed 3 times with same shitty 2 word .online name.

    Maybe it will help.

  5. Here is the thing they see a name like TheHolidayOnline.com sell for $3K, they run out, and get TheHoliday.Online, and think well they should be able to get at least $1K, but a break after the second word is not proper grammar or format, it makes no sense, it makes it worthless.

  6. Is the $100 still in Escrow?

That’s a nice name (in the .com), my first ever sale was Golf/Oman.

  7. .xyz is spam central. Garbage extension always as bad as the crap .ws that Domain Shane was pushing on people.

  8. I get a lot of emails that start out with “I hope you’re doing well” I just delete them.

I would have replied with “Why? I have the .com”

  9. Haha! Seems like you like playing with spammers.
One day he’ll get mad and send worm to your computer.

  10. The funniest thing about this to me is the pitch email. Just reading it, I can remember seeing the advice they are following with. “Price it with an 88 at the end becuase Chinese end-users think it’s lucky.”, end with “What do you think?” to get to engage them in discussion.

I can imagine how much time they spent tediously implementing all of these tactics only to waste time emailing hundreds of people on a crap domains no one will ever want and getting their email address spam blacklisted.
