.Rich attempts to reboot because of zero interest

I-REGISTRY Ltd., the London company that runs the .Rich New gTLD, send out a press release today in attempt to reboot it’s New gTLD. .Rich launched in April 10th and only got 21 sunrise registrations. It’s zone file now contains 37 domains but 16 of them are registry owned. It hasn’t attracted any new registrations since general availability.

The press release says that “.RICH domain names are created for wealthy personalities in entertainment and sports to the business, art, and fashion elite who want to impress and standout.”.

“A .RICH domain name and membership can be purchased from chosen domain providers for around US$ 3000 annually.”

“.RICH members will receive a first-class package of services including encrypted emails (e.g. firstname@lastname.rich), a custom website with state-of-the-art creation tools and the highest security technology available, a dedicated service team and a personal trustee. Members will also enjoy other exclusive benefits such as invitations to VIP events.”

“A portion of the purchase price of a .RICH domain name will be donated to charity.”

It seems to me that the whole marketing plan was flawed from the start and this “reboot” is not helping. Rich people don’t care about encrypted emails and a custom website and they are certainly not interested in geek VIP events. And the people that are interested in the custom website are not prepared to pay $3000 per year for a .rich domain name.

And, I have said it before about .hiv, if people want to donate to charity it is better to do it direct and cut the middle man.

I-REGISTRY should focus on getting .online that is the best of the domains it has applied for but has several other applicants. .Vip is better than .rich but again it depends on what the marketing plan is.

Here is the complete press release:

  1. Wow! they must be desperate…………anytime you see “a portion will go to charity”……….

  2. A Registry that divide people amount low and uppler classes is not destined to succeed anyway. Honestly I can fawking care less for this type of registry who promote the differences among people based on how much money they have. This is the most ridiculous thing a registry can do and is opposite to what most of our leaders have fought or fighting.

I hope they just go away.

  4. “A portion of the purchase price of a .RICH domain name will be donated to charity.”

What Percentage (Portion) is Donated to Charity?

  5. Why in the world would a rich guy want to register a .rich domain? Is it me or would this sound ridiculously showy in the best case and self-defeating in the worst case? Wealthy people are usually entrepreneurs who own one or more brands and promoting the differences between them and average Joes is certainly one of the best ways to hurt their public image.

  6. Rich.wanker works so much better than wanker.rich

Like this TLD was ever going to fly? Idiots.

.rich domain owners – first up against the wall when the revolution arrives.

  7. HaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHa

They’ve got 37 domains registered, 16 of which are registry owned. And they paid $185,000 to run the .rich registry.

Tell me this is a joke, right??
