Namejet Refuses To Refund Backorder Made Last Year (Just Won A Domain I Dropped)

I couple of days ago I got an email from Namejet that I won a domain with the tile “NameJet Order Confirmation” and I immediately knew there was something wrong as I had not backordered a domain name. I opened it and I had won a domain that I had won last year and dropped it a couple of months back. So I won a domain with a backorder from last year that was left there in my account.

I opened a support ticket and asked that they delete the domain and refund me the money. And this is the canned reply I got:

We are not able to issue any refunds on domains purchased via the NameJet website.

You can remove Pending Delete and Pre-Release domains from your Backorder list if you have not increased the bid amount over the minimum amount, and it is not in a pending auction status.
Wish List items can be removed at any time, regardless of amount.

I know that their FAQ says so but this is just bullshit. I have maybe asked this just 1 more time in the past years only to be refused again. But this is no way to treat a customer. This is what separates good companies from great companies. I have bought hundreds if not thousands of domains at Namejet and have spend thousands upon thousands of dollars on auctions. It would have cost Namejet maybe $10 or even $0 to make that refund and make me happy but instead they chose not no do it.

My main problem with Namejet is that they don’t offer a “Bulk Delete” feature as Snapnames does so I can delete past backorders on my own. I currently have a bout 5000 backorders and it is not easy to delete only the domains I want by ticking individual domains.

Technically they say they don;t refund domains in their FAQ but this is not an auctioned domain and I am not doing it all the time. I have asked it 4 times in total in the past 10 years. 2 times in Namejet, 1 in Pool and 1 in Snapnames.

That is their choice as it is my choice to not use them as my main drop catcher from now on and write this article only so they could make $50. I have previously asked Pool one time and Snapnames another one in the past 10 or so years and both companies refunded the backorder funds.

My main point is that most domain name companies don’t respect their clients. The few companies that do will remain in the end.

    Its easy to track your backorders of domains about to hit pending delete or exclusive drop closing period and delete them before they drop.

    Actually Its easier to track then snapnames,com

    You do need to check your account every 4-5 days but I do it, just part of the deal & takes less than 10M. Let me know if you don’t know how to do it this way I will walk you though it

  3. In backorders in my namejet a/c I rank by number of backorders and go through those with 1 backorder (ie. just mine) and weed out the rubbish.

    I also check those with 2 and 3 backorders and if a name is borderline but I still want to be in any eventual private auction, I delete my backorder and backorder again to put my entry $69 bid at the back of the queue.

  4. I feel your pain as this has happened to me too but it was for a domain name I never actually backordered. It was a bad one word generic org domain I have to memory of actually putting in my account. I’ve seen other complaints about this and it really annoys me.

    I agree it is total BS but what are domain investors and customers of these auction platforms supposed to do? We should definitely voice our grievances on forums and blogs, but honestly NameJet holds all the cards as do other registrars and auction houses.

    I hate to do business with NJ because they charged me for backorder but it’s hard not to. A lot of great domains go through them. Same goes with GD.

    • Yes, I have heard of other complain about this too.

      I don’t do GD at all because the prices are now crazy high because all the newbies and shillers are in there.
      And you don’t have to backorder domains in advance. You just go there and start bidding.

      • Each auction platform has it’s advantages and disadvantages. I’ve picked up great steals (imo) at GD and it’s a good place to look for a domain name with keyword(s).

        It’s getting virtually impossible to pick-up great domains there at reasonable end-user prices. Even if you wait to bid, there is always an a3$hole that goes way past your set price and past where an end user would probably pay for the domain.

        That’s why auctions exist. 🙂

      • Sure but making people pre-order a domain by a certain date and then wait 3 days until the end of the auction needs at least some small level of commitment that a lot of people don’t make.

  5. i don’t know why they don’t automatically delete backorders for domains won through them..snapnames does.
